Policy Narrative
All of the furniture and appliances provided by the University remain the property of the University throughout the resident’s occupancy. The resident may not remove any University-owned furniture or appliances from their room/apartment. The resident may not remove any University-owned items from common spaces on campus. Residents are not permitted to disassemble beds or adjust university furniture into an unsafe position (e.g. stacking dressers or fridges). Failure to abide by the above restrictions may result in disciplinary action. Any furniture brought into the halls that is deemed a health or safety hazard as defined by Housing & Residence Life or Facilities staff is subject to removal. Housing & Residence Life reserves the right to grant exceptions to furniture adjustment policies.
Residents may not utilize or deconstruct furniture for an open bed space/room. Students who deconstruct or utilize furniture not assigned to them may be assessed for damages or costs to reassemble or replace furniture. This includes deconstructing or dismantling of university piping to install appliances, including but not limited to bidets, water filters, and personal shower heads.
The University provides mattress encasements specifically designed to prevent the spread of common insect infestation. Students are required to keep the mattress encasement on their mattress at all times. Removal or disposal of the mattress encasement may subject the student to a fine and restitution charges.

To create and maintain an equitable environment where students have the optimal opportunity to succeed academically, personally, and professionally and where any and all Daemen University Community members feel safe, valued, and respected.
