Attendance and Punctuality

Policy Author:
Employee Engagement

Responsible Office – Department:
Employee Engagement

Effective Date of Policy:
February 2, 2021

Regular attendance and punctuality are a requirement of employment at the university. Employees are expected to be present for work, on time, every day.  However, in the event of illness, we encourage employees to stay home and rest so they can get well faster and keep others from getting sick. If you find it necessary to be absent from work, you must notify your supervisor prior to the start of your shift. Please see the Employee Sick Leave Policy for additional information about your sick time benefits.

New York State Law requires employers to keep up-to-date attendance records and your record will be a major consideration for advancement. Failure to call in or habitual tardiness and/or absenteeism are grounds for dismissal.

In the case of an injury, illness, or medical condition that prevents an employee from working for an extended period of time, (i.e. disability, workman’s compensation) please refer to the Medical Leaves of Absence section of the handbook.
